Katongo is the Chairperson of the National Organisation for Women in Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (NOWSPAR), a lecturer of Physical Education and Sport at The University of Zambia. She holds a B.Sc in Physical Education and Sport from the International School of Physical Education and Sport in Havana Cuba, an MA in Sport Management from the London Metropolitan University in the UK and a PhD in Physical Education and Sport from the University of Zambia.   In both her NGO work and academic experiences, Katongo’s focus is on physical education and sport development, especially for girls and the marginalised in Southern Africa. Within the region and beyond, she has been actively involved in the delivery of various sports leadership programmes through her engagement with the National Sports Council of Zambia, African Union Sports Council Region 5(AUSC5), and International Council for Sports Science and Physical Education (ICSSPES).

Katongo has previously worked as Sport Development Officer at Ministry of Sport Youth and Art, Sport Outreach Officer at Olympic Youth Development Centre in Zambia, English, Spanish and Physical Education Teacher at the French School of Lusaka and Physical Education and Sport Teacher at Chengelo School in Mkushi.

Katongo is a 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow who is passionate about the promotion of equitable engagement of girls and women and youth in sport, physical activity and recreation.  She advocates for community development through inclusion and empowerment.
