Fran Serrano

Fran Serrano is a Senior Lecturer at Manukau Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand and has been involved in education for over 25 years, he sits on the institute’s International Committee and Campus Research Committee. He is actively involved in connecting tertiary education with the sport industry and has developed a Diploma in Sport that is delivered out of Counties Manukau Rugby Union, an initiative that has spread to other rugby unions and national sport associations. He is also the managing trustee of the Malakai Alatini Trust, which focuses on developing sporting and educational pathways for Polynesian student athletes in New Zealand and is involved coaching rugby and football at secondary school level. His research activity includes studying applied learning environments within sport organisations and teams, cultural frameworks that drive performance in sport, and the application of learning organisation model to drive performance within team sporting environments. He is currently developing physical activity programmes for indigenous youth with a focus on reaching remote geographic locations. Fran has a Masters in Applied Management and is World Rugby Educator, and his PhD project is on sport and sustainability.
