Quarterly News 15-01-2009 - Information & Conference Activities in 2009 & 2010

Dear ISCPES Members and Friends,
The Executive Board would like to forward the following information and conference activities in 2009 and 2010 for your attention.

1. ICSSPE Representation
ISCPES would like to keep on the contribution at ICSSPE. Dr. Walter Ho will serve as the Vice President in education from 2009 to 2012. Prof. Herbert Haag is nominated to serve as Speakers for Association. Rosa D’Amico, Klaus Krieger and Martin Holzweg will continue to contribute as member at the ICSP. Rosa D’Amico and Abel Toriola are now members of the Editorial Board. Lateef Amusa represents the Society at the Executive Board of ICSSPE and Rosa D’Amico will keep on serving at the Association Board. The team will make their best service for the international academic affairs in sport and physical education and would be glad to gain your support as well in all matters.

2. Academic Events and Activities:
The 16th Biennial Conference of ISCPES 2008
The 16th Biennial Conference of ISCPES 2008 was successfully held at the University of Macau from 23 to 26 July 2008 with ‘Global Merging: A New Era for Sport and Physical Education’ as the conference theme. A total of 70 papers received for consideration of publication. The Scientific committee recommended an eight members’ team as Review Board to evaluate the papers and give comment to authors. Prof. Ren Hai will continue to serves as chair and Dr. Walter Ho will be the secretary. Members had their meeting in Beijing on 8th December to discuss related issues. It was suggested to put papers with suitable quality under three book volumes with one in Chinese and two in English. The Board expects to complete the review works in early February so as to inform authors about the comments. The publication works expects to be complete in June 2009.

A conference CD will also produce to include abstracts and papers presented at conference for members’ retention.

ISCPES 2009 Regional Conference (Vancouver, Canada)
The ISCPES Regional Congress 2009 is awarded to University of British Columbia and Dr. Antony Church of Laurentian University will serve as the Conference Chair. The conference date is set on 22nd to 24th June 2009 and the theme is proposed as “Leveraging Legacies: The Future of Sport and Physical Activity”. The conference site is chosen at the beauty city of Vancouver and also the host city of the 2010 Winter Olympic. February 28 is proposed as the last day for abstract submission. 17th Biennial Conference of ISCPES (2010) (Nairobi, Kenya)
The 17th Biennial Conference for ISCPES in 2010 is awarded to Kenyatta University, Kenya. An Organizing Committee is already set with Dr. Mwangi Peter Wanderi of Kenyatta University as the Chair. The Conference Date is set on 6th to 8th June 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya. The country is famous for its natural beauty and great hospitality. The date is set to match the World Cup Soccer in Africa. The conference theme is proposed as “Physical Education and Sport for Global Peace and Development”. Due to the World Cup Soccer effect, the Organizing Committee needs to close the Early Bird Application in August 2009 to avoid the increase of charge from different contractors. Please do not miss this important chance to taste the African culture. A web link is developed with the following information.

3. Research and Developmental Projects
The Executive Board expects to monitor a number of cross-countries or regions research projects in physical and sport education to enrich the comparative field in PE and sport. Special attention is placed on how the youth and young children are developed through different sport and PE programs. Sport management and mega events are another focus of concern. These projects will be informed once it is at suitable maturity. If you are interested in these activities, please write and inform Dr. Martin Holzweg at martin.holzweg@spowi.hu-berlin.de, our research coordinator for information.
